WE'RE CELEBRATING THE STRENGTH OF OUR CANADIAN DOLLAR BY PASSING THE SAVINGS ON TO YOU!
Article from the Toronto Star on cross-border shipping
We pride ourselves at Foremost Fitness on providing the best service and the highest quality equipment at the lowest price to all our customers. In light of the recent rise in our Canadian Dollar, Foremost Fitness is celebrating by reducing the prices on all U.S. products.
That being said, there are a few factors to consider when comparing pricing to U.S. retailers and U.S. websites.
Is the product that you are buying from the U.S. CSA approved?
The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) develops standards for all products coming into Canada in order to ensure that they conform to Canadian safety regulations. It is illegal to use any product in Canada that is not CSA approved and insurance companies are not liable for any damage caused by such products inside your home.
Although the product is made by the same manufacturer, has the same name and looks identical, it may not be comparable to products sold in Canada. All products that are in Canada are changed to meet Canadian safety regulations (i.e. electronic components, different plastics being used, placing of parts, etc.) and are different than seemingly identical products sold in the U.S. All products sold by Foremost Fitness are CSA approved and you can rest assured that they are safe to use in your home or commercial facility.
Will WARRANTY issues be covered when buying product from the U.S.?
Manufacturers of fitness equipment will not cover warranty of U.S. products being shipped to Canada. These products are not CSA approved and they expect you do buy the product from your local dealer.
Canadian dealers will not service products coming from the U.S. as they are only responsible for products that they sold to their customers. We at Foremost Fitness are loyal to our customers and will do what ever it takes to make sure that your equipment that you have purchased from us is always working.
Have you considered the extra cost to have items sent to Canada (even if free shipping is being offered to US locations)?
Shipping for fitness equipment can get quite expensive when shipping from the U.S. When shipping smaller items that are heavy in single or a few units, shipping companies will charge upwards of $100 and could get a lot higher depending on how much product you’re bringing in.
The same applies when shipping larger items such as cardio equipment from the U.S. Firstly, you will have to find a broker to file all necessary paperwork for crossing the border. This alone can cost you $40 to $100. On top of that, shipping costs for cardio equipment will run upwards of $300. Foremost Fitness has paid all shipping related costs for our products and they are reflected in our prices.
Have you considered the extra cost of duties and taxes charged by Canadian Customs at the Border?
The vast majority of fitness equipment products today are made in Asia. When these products are being cleared at the border, Canadian Customs will charge you 6.5% duties and even more when products are made in other Continents. Also, Provincial and Federal Taxes are charged at the border. Foremost Fitness has paid all duties and taxes charged outside of PST and GST and they are reflected in our prices.
Are you considering driving into the U.S. to pick the product up yourself?
The above duties and taxes still apply when going to the U.S. yourself to pick up the product. Although you will be saving yourself the shipping cost, there are various other costs that now apply. If you are picking the product up yourself, you will have to pay all U.S. state taxes in addition to Canadian taxes & duties charged at the border. Have you considered your fuel costs and your valuable time?
